News Updates

Happy Halloween!
Date/Time :Friday October 31st, 2008 8:29 am
I added a few new articles to the catalog, one is a recipe for "Fiber Crisps" , a healthy alternative to potato/tortilla chips. It can be found HERE.

Another article, entitled "Nutrition: The Early Years" takes a look at how important it is to provide your infant with proper nutrition - discussing what effect nutrient deficiencies can have on your child's physical and emotional development. That article is available HERE.
Additional Articles Added.
Date/Time :Wednesday October 22nd, 2008 8:59 pm
Well it's been awhile since I updated the news section here, full load of classes at school are keeping me with the nose buried in books (especially my physiology classes).

Anyhow, a few new articles up, on on the dangers of the diet supplement "Synephrine (bitter orange extract)", as well as an expose on creatine, whether it delivers what it promises or not... And finally an in-depth guide to using the food log system here - which many people may not even realize is there. Check the "articles" option on the menu bar to check them out.
Workout Partner Locator Added.
Date/Time :Tuesday September 30th, 2008 7:32 pm
I added a feature called the Workout Partner Locator. What this does is allow you to search for other users who are looking for workout partners using several different criteria, such as age, sex, athletic ability, preferred activities and more.

If you want to learn more about the feature, check out the blog post on it HERE.
Blogs Updated A Bit.
Date/Time :Wednesday September 24th, 2008 9:37 pm
I updated the look of a few things in the blogs area, made it a little more pretty. Also started a new series of blog posts, "Fast Food Fakin", where I will teach you to make healthy versions of fast food favorites, with recipes and nutritional comparisons. This first post takes on the fast food taco. Check it out HERE.
New Article - 10 Steps To Losing 100 Lbs.
Date/Time :Wednesday September 10th, 2008 10:21 pm
I added a new article today HERE. It talks about the things that I found made me successful in my weight loss adventures. If you are thinking about starting a "diet", read this first!
New Event System Running!
Date/Time :Saturday September 6th, 2008 1:29 am
I added the new event system to the site, click HERE to check it out. It works similar to the trail locator - you can use it to find upcoming events in your area, with the ability to search events by type and proximity to your location.

You can also flag events you plan to participate in, and see what other users will be there.
Members Can Add Foods To Database Now!
Date/Time :Friday September 5th, 2008 7:28 pm
I added a feature today in the food log that allows you to add new foods to the database - if there is a specific product you want to add, just go to your food log and click where it says "Click HERE To Add A New Food".

You will be prompted to enter nutritional information from the packaging, once you are done - the product will immediately be available to add to your food log.
Food Suggestions In Food Log.
Date/Time :Sunday August 31st, 2008 9:28 pm
I added a new feature to the site, when you add a food into your food log, it rates each choice using an formula to calculate the nutrient density of the food.

For those who are wondering, nutrient density is a measure of how many vitamins and minerals are in a set amount of food (i.e. how many vitamins are in 100 calories worth of broccoli vs. 100 calories of cheese).

A little face will appear next to the food in your log as you add it, either smiling, frowning or with a blank look - you can hover your mouse over the face to get a pop-up list of alternate food suggestions.
Updated Profile Viewer.
Date/Time :Saturday August 30th, 2008 9:34 am
I have updated the profile viewer significantly, now when you view someone's profile all the buttons and features should be working - you can browse profiles of users, make buddy list request, view other user's food and exercise logs (if set to public), and see overall site statistics.

You can also use the "edit profile" feature to change your personal statistics, when you view your own profile, you will be able to edit details of your account.
Trails System Up And Running
Date/Time :Thursday August 28th, 2008 7:53 pm
Ok, the trail finder feature is now fully functional (I believe). Please if you have a few minutes, check it out - it is under the "trails" option, or you can just click HERE to go to it.

Not only will the trail editor allow you to see how many miles your running/cycling trails are exactly, but you can save them and will be able to incorporate them into your exercise log very soon.

You will also be able to search for trails within your vicinity, selecting a starting point and a radius to search. This feature is available to both guests and registered users, however only registered users can save trails - guests can still check the distance of a trail, see the current weather there, and browse the database of existing trails.

I am planning to have some sort of raffle system in the near future as well with a decent prize (Something like an Ipod or GPS unit) for contributions to the trail database to help encourage submissions. So it wouldn't hurt to get a head start now .
Slow Month For Content.
Date/Time :Tuesday August 26th, 2008 10:46 pm
Sorry if things have been a little slow around here, having a hectic end of the summer semester. Also working on quite a few features behind the scenes. The trail editor/pedometer will be and running real soon, click HERE to check out a sneak preview.

Also in the works real soon are some advanced exercise calculators. You will be able to custom design workout plans based around the amount of time you have to work out each week, and what sort of fitness or weight loss goals you are looking to achieve.
I plan to start having what are known as "perfect meal plans". daily eating regimens that stress eating enough food for your goals, along with providing 100% of your daily requirements for all the major vitamins and minerals.

In the meantime, head over to the message forums and strike up a conversation , meet someone new! If you haven't already started your blog, registered users can click HERE to set it up and start posting today!
New Article - "antioxidant All-stars".
Date/Time :Tuesday August 12th, 2008 10:03 pm

Date/Time :Monday August 11th, 2008 12:02 am
Sorry for anyone who tried to use any of the food logging or top 100 foods features, my database got messed up while I was off in New York over the weekend. Everything should be back to normal now.

Date/Time :Wednesday August 6th, 2008 9:00 pm

You will need to register to post in the forums.

Date/Time :Monday August 4th, 2008 9:10 am
Sorry the site was unavailable most of Sunday night, I was importing a new food database into the site. The new database has hundreds of new foods, including a lot of new cereals, soups and healthy foods such as soy milk. I am working on creating a food log for guest users in the next day or two as well.

You do need to be a registered user to use the food/exercise logs.

Date/Time :Tuesday July 22nd, 2008 9:54 pm

This feature is available from the menu bar as "NewsReader".

Date/Time :Monday July 21st, 2008 3:02 pm
I have added another article to the collection, called Is Diet Soda Safe? We Examine The Evidence. In this article I discuss some of the health risks associated with drinking diet sodas. You may never look at that can of soda the same way again.
Enchanced Comments Feature.
Date/Time :Wednesday July 16th, 2008 2:20 pm
I have added a few bits into the comments feature, now guest users can leave their name and website URL when they leave a comment similar to the way many blogs work. Hopefully this will encourage some discussion of the articles ;-)
Guest Can Now Leave Comments On Articles/reviews.
Date/Time :Monday July 14th, 2008 1:33 am
I added the ability for guest users to comment on articles and product reviews, so all the people from Stumble, Digg, etc can leave their mark so long as I don't have too much spam.

I also added a feature on the right hand column of the main page that shows the most popular, most recent and the most discussed content on the site. If you have any other ideas of what you would like to see here, drop me a line HERE.
First Article Posted!
Date/Time :Friday July 11th, 2008 3:41 am
I finally got the first article published up on the site, you can read it HERE. It is instructions on how to make something like Boca or Morningstar chicken patties at home for a fraction of the cost of store-bought.

I am definitely looking for others who wish to contribute articles to your database, drop me a line HERE if you have something to contribute.
Product Reviews Up And Running!
Date/Time :Monday July 7th, 2008 6:23 pm
The product reviews menu option is now complete, if you are a registered user, you can add reviews of health-related products, there are several categories to pick from. You can also comment on reviews, as well as vote on them. All reviews will be moderated to prevent spam and other type abuse, so when you enter your review, it will not appear until the site-op has a chance to review it. On a side note, if the product is available through Amazon.Com, a link will appear in the review where the site will receive a small commission to cover hosting fees and hardware upgrades if the item is purchased through our store.
Exercise Log Up And Running!
Date/Time :Sunday July 6th, 2008 11:49 pm
Ok, the exercise log is now working along with the food log, the two of them share data for detailed analysis reports! There are over 500 exercises in the database, so you will definately be able to find your favorite activities. The exercise log also shares the look and feel of the food log, so once you are familiar with one, you will know the other.
Event Viewer / Editor Available.
Date/Time :Wednesday July 2nd, 2008 7:54 pm

Please note that if you wish to add an event, you must be a registered user. The events feature also has a "participant" flag set up, so you can register which events you plan to take part in, and see what other users plan to be there as well.
Top Foods Is Working!
Date/Time :Wednesday July 2nd, 2008 7:50 pm
The "Top Foods" feature is now working, this will let you sort through the database of over 40,000 foods we have here. You can sort the list by all the different nutrients listed, and have the option to select either the entire database, or individual chunks. Please note that it will take a second or two to sort through the database as new foods are constantly added to the database, it has to be generated on the fly to be the most accurate.
Food Log Functional.
Date/Time :Tuesday July 1st, 2008 4:32 pm
Ok, the food log feature is now (i think) 100% functional. If you find any problems, you can drop me a line here. Remember, you need to be a registered user & logged in for it to work. Be sure to click on the "Detailed Analysis" button when you have entered all your food for the day. The exercise log should be ready to go really soon, it looks and works just like the food log, and they both share data between each other.

Enjoy!

Welcome to Daves Workout. We are officially online now, however most of the features have been deactivated until they are completely polished, so things may look a little weird, this should be corrected over the next few weeks. I will keep you posted in the news as to new features when they are made available.
